Spare change – Day 225

Everybody’s done this, but it always gives me such pleasure.

Today I went to the deli to get some tomatoes, which they didn’t seem to sell. How can that be, I still don’t understand. Evidently, they took up all the tomato space with cut flowers, so I bought those instead, which changed my culinary plans dramatically.

So now I’m in line, and I’m so lost in space that I haven’t noticed that the lady in jogging clothes in front of me is counting out the change in her jacket pocket, penny by penny. “What do you need?” I smile and ask her, taking a bunch of coins out of my own pocket. (The smile was so she would think i was nice, and not just a jerk hurrying her up. Which, if you knew me, is absolutely possible.) Turned out it was $.37, and I was happy to hand it over.

Of course she thanked me profusely, commented on the beauty of my flowers, and I left with a fistful of daffodils and a grin.

Share the wealth.

    Hi Erin,
It really does take so little to be kind. If we all just put out these small gestures, it would probably change the world.

I started a blog this week to make me a more disciplined writer. If you have any advice, I’d appreciate the feedback.

    • We can only hope, right, Marilyn?

I think the blog is a great way for you to get some discipline. It’s the new version of what Faulkner said about writing, that the hardest part was staying in your seat! Keep at it, is all I can say!

Hey Erin – I finally got around to blogging about your Good Deed journey and sharing your story with my school family. Here’s the link if you want to read it. Thanks for your inspiration. LOVE the launch at the end of each piece!

    • Thanks, Barbara — must be why I’ve been getting so many hits! Off to a book signing for my new book, THE L LIFE: Extraordinary Lesbians Making a Difference, but will check it out when I return. Thanks so much, as ever, for all your support!
